ハマユウ (Poison Bulb)

　ハマユウ（浜木綿、ヒガンバナ科）。2011年7月20日、わが家の庭で撮影。写真の花茎は、今年この株から伸び出た3本目のものである。梅雨期に出た1本目は開花しないで枯れてしまった。いま4本目が伸びて来ている。私はこの花の芳香を感じるが、妻は感じないという。他方、妻の感じるロウバイの花の香りが、私には全く感じられない。

Poison bulb, also known as giant cranium lily, grand cranium lily and spider lily; botanical name, Crinum asiaticum; family, Amaryllidaceae. The photo was taken in our yard, July 20, 2011. The scape in the photo is the third of this year that shot from this strain. The first one appeared in the rainy season and withered without blooming. The fourth is now growing. I notice the fragrance of the flowers of this plant, but my wife does not. On the other hand, my wife feels the scent of winter-sweet flowers, but I do not do so at all.
