台風１２号が去って (After Typhoon Talas)

　先週末に西日本を通過した台風12号は、記録的な大雨を降らし、1979年以来最悪の台風となった。少なくとも49人が死亡し、55人以上が行方不明となっている（数字は9月7日付け朝日紙による）。

被害は和歌山県で最も著しかった。ここ大阪府では、これといった被害はなかったが、何日も続いた雨天のあと、昨日ようやく晴天になった。鳳公園で、幼稚園児たちがプラスチックのシートを使い、青空の下で、大きな風船状のものを作っているのを見た（写真）。

　注：英文中の台風名はオンラインの英字新聞で知ったものだが、その名前の付け方は、気象庁ウェブサイトなどに説明されている。今回の台風名 "Talas" はフィリピン語で「鋭い」を意味する。

Typhoon No. 12 (Talas) that passed the western Japan last weekend dumped record amounts of rain, becoming the worst one since 1979. At least 49 people have been killed, and more than 55 are missing (numerical data has been taken from the Asahi-shimbun dated September 7).

Wakayama Prefecture had the biggest suffering. We had no appreciable damage here in Osaka Prefecture but got a sunny day only yesterday after a series of rainy days. In Ōtori Park, I saw children of a kindergarten making something like a big balloon with a plastic sheet under the blue sky (the above photo).
