スイセン (Narcissus)

　スイセンは、ヒガンバナ科の属のひとつの名称。中国での呼び名「水仙」を音読みしたもの。「仙人は、天にあるを天仙、地にあるを地仙、水にあるを水仙」という中国の古典に由来し、水辺で咲く姿を仙人にたとえたのであろうとのことである [1]。2011年12月19日、わが家の庭で撮影。

Narcissus is a genus in the Amaryllis family. The Japanese name of this genus suisen comes from the Chinese name shui xian (水仙), which means a water wizard [1]. The photo was taken in our yard, December 19, 2011.
