京都・建仁寺と大原へのバス旅行３ (Bus Trip to Ken'nin Temple and Ōhara, Kyoto -3-)

寂光院、本堂前西側の庭園。諸行無常の鐘楼（左奥）と千年姫小松（右）が見える。この名木は、本堂の火災によって傷みが激しくなり、2004年夏に枯死した。

昼食をした「わっぱ堂」に藍染めの品々が展示されていたことから、参加者の希望で、帰途に工房「藍の館」へ寄った。写真は、その工房の前の鉢にあった染料用の植物アイ（藍、タデ科、学名 Persicaria tinctoria；奥の大きい葉のほう）とアカネ（茜、アカネ科、学名 Rubia argyi；手前の小さい葉のほう）。アカネの茎は四角く、葉はハート型で、一ヵ所から4枚出る（輪生）と、工房の主から説明して貰った［ウィキペディア（日本語版）によれば、4枚のうち2枚は托葉が変化したもので（偽輪生）、
実際は対生とのこと］。

Some goods dyed by indigo were displayed at the restaurant Wappa-dō, and a few of participants of the trip wanted to see the workshop for indigo dyeing. So, we especially visited the workshop Ai-no-yakata (the House of Indigo). The photo above shows plants for dyeing we saw in front of the workshop. The larger leaves at the back are those of indigo plant (botanical name, Persicaria tinctoria); smaller leaves at the front, Rubia argyi). The owner of the workshop told us that the cross section of the stem of Rubia argyi was square and that its four heart-shaped leaves came out from a point (four whorls) [According to Wikipedia, Japanese edition, two of the four leaves of Rubia argyi are a variation of the petiole (false verticillate), so that the leaves
actually make the opposite phyllotaxis].

　梅雨の晴れ間に恵まれた一日で、よい旅を楽しむことが出来た。月曜日にも関わらず、バスが交通渋滞にあうこともなく、帰宅は午後7時半。

Being blessed by the break of the rainy season, we happily enjoyed a pleasant trip. Though it was Monday, the bus was not stuck in a traffic jam, and we got home at 7:30 pm.
