10 月 10 日午前、山口県立美術館を訪れる。写真の左奥に、木々の間から微かに見えるレンガ造りの建物が美術館。
In the morning of October 10, we visited the Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum of Art, the brick building of which is faintly seen among trees at the left back of the photo above.
今回の旅で見物したのは小倉城庭園（小倉城天守閣をそのあたりから眺めて）と山口県立美術館だけ。小倉では、松本清張記念館も訪れたかったが、時間が足らなかった。したがって、主に温泉と夕食を楽しんだ旅となった。
山口県立美術館（70 歳以上無料）では、三つのコレクション展が開催中だったが、入館後、順路に従って進むと、まず、『第69回山口県美術展』を見ることになった。分野の区別なく入選以上の 128 点が並べられていて、多くは油彩画である。その鑑賞が終わると、館内のカフェで昼食を済ませて駅へ向かうべき時間になってしまった。同展の大賞を獲得した作品は、極細のペンを使って墨で描いた 100 号 6 枚の連作で、『ボクラノユクエ』と題し、原爆とガスマスク、自衛隊の海外派遣、アラブ系の顔、憂いを持った顔、自然環境問題、日本と中国の緊迫した関係、をそれぞれテーマにしたもの（会場で貰った館報による）ということである。私たちが興味を持ったのは『地球の片隅で』と題して、国内外の山や都市の風景を描いた多数の水墨画を、幾つもの屏風の両面に貼り合わせた入選作で、一つ一つの絵は 6 号程度の大きさながら、その数の多さと筆使いの器用さ（現場で写生したものとみて）に圧倒された。（完）
In this trip we were able to visit only Kokura Castle Japanese Garden and Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum of Art (we looked at the Kokura Castle Tower from its outside). In Kokura, we wanted to visit also Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum, but time was not enough to do so. Thus, what we enjoyed mostly were hot springs and Japanese-style dinners.
At Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum of Art, we saw The 69th Yamaguchi Prefecture Art Exhibition. We were interested in an ink painting work rather than the grand prize work. The former was made of many drawings that depicted landscapes of domestic and foreign mountains and cities and were pasted on both sides of a few folding screens. (End)
