オランダ、ベルギー運河の船旅 ２ (Cruise on Canals in the Netherlands and Belgium -2-)

　私たちの乗った船「セレナーデ II 号」は、4月15日 21:00 にアムステルダムを出港し、夜半過ぎにホールンへ入港した。ホールンは、アイセル湖に面していて、17世紀にはオランダ東インド会社の重要な港湾の一つとして栄えた都市である。

Our ship Serenade II, set sail from Amsterdam at 21:00 April 15, entered the port of Hoorn past the midnight. Hoorn is a city facing the IJsselmeer and in the 17th century flourished as one of the important port of the Dutch East India Company.

　4月16日の朝、船室から美しい日の出が見えた（上の写真、6:39 撮影）。クルーズの始まりにふさわしい光景である。地平線から少し浮き上がったところに長く横たわる黒雲とその下に帯状に見える空の明るい部分が、日の出前には、対岸の森と湖面の一部のように思われた。したがって、それらよりも手前のような位置から太陽が顔をのぞかせたのには驚いた。しかし、森と思ったものが実は黒雲と分かれば、なんの不思議もない光景である。

In the morning of April 16, a beautiful view of sunrise was seen from the cabin (the photo above, taken 6:39). This is a spectacular sight fitting to the beginning of the cruise. Before sunrise, a long line of dark clouds lying a little above the horizon and the clear portion of the sky seen below them in a band had looked like a forest on the opposite shore and part of the lake. So, I was first surprised to glimpse the scene as if the sun had come up in front of those earthly things. After my finding that what seemed to be a forest was actually clouds, however, it was no unusual sight at all.

　7:00 からの朝食を済ませて船室へ戻り、少し高くなった朝日の見える光景をスケッチした。

We had breakfast from 7:00, and after coming back to the cabin, I made a sketch of the harbor of Hoorn with the morning sun.

　9:00、旅の参加者たちは二つのグループに別れて、ホールン散策に出発した。上の3枚の写真は、ホールンの港付近の光景。（つづく）
