添乗員一同によって綴られた「旅の思い出」に、ホールンの地名はアイセル湖に角（つの）のように突き出た地形に由来する旨記されている。しかし、ウィキペディア（英語版）によれば、「最初の港が角の形をしていたことによる」という一説はあるものの、他にも諸説があって、単純ではない。それはともかく、ホールンは、昔の街路計画が維持され、歴史的な建物も古い形のままに保存されている美しい街である (City guide of Hoorn, VVV Hoorn)。
In "Memories of the tour" written by tour conductors, it is described that the name of Hoorn came from the terrain jutting into the IJsselmeer like a horn. According to Wikipedia, one version of the origin of the name is surely "from the horn shape of one of its first ports," but there are also several other stories. So, the matter is not straightforward. Anyway, Hoorn is a beautiful city whose street plan has to a large extent remained intact and historical buildings have been retained in their old forms (City guide of Hoorn, VVV Hoorn).
1枚目の写真の前方には、跳ね橋が見える。2枚目の写真は、添乗員の一人、S・Y さん（こちら向きの人）が、オランダの家は間口が狭く、階段の幅も狭いため、家具を窓からロープで運び入れるのに便利なように、前に傾けて建てられていることを説明しているところである。ただし、写真では近くの高い建物は内側へ傾斜して写ってしまうので、本当の傾きを表すことが難しい。引き続き、運河沿いの建物の美しさに魅せられて、何枚も写真を撮った。下の2枚はその一部。（つづく）
At the distant view of the first photo above, a bascule bridge is seen. In the second photo, one of the tour conductors, Ms. S. Y. (the person facing towards the camera), was saying, "Houses in the Netherlands have narrow frontage and staircases, so that the furniture is taken into the houses from the window by a rope. For the convenience of such work, the houses have been built to tilt forward." However, tall buildings standing nearby appear to be inclining towards the inside in the photo, and it is difficult to represent the true slope. Being fascinated by the beauty of the building along the canal, I continued to take many pieces of pictures. Two among them are shown below. (To be continued)
