　旅の 6 日目（10 月 23 日）午後、オーストリアのバッハウ渓谷クルーズ（続き）。

The afternoon of the sixth day (October 23) of the trip: Cruise on the Danube in the Wachau valley (continuation).


14:30 頃、ドナウ川左岸の町、アックスバッハ・マルクトが見え始める。
Around 14:30, we began to see the town of Aggsbach Markt on the left bank of the Danube.

14:35 頃、右岸の町、アックスバッハ・ドルフの船着場の看板。アックスバッハ・マルクトとの位置関係はこちらの地図にある。
Around 14:35, we saw the sign of the Aggsbach Dorf town at the pier on the right bank. Here is a map to show the positional relationship between Aggsbach Markt and Aggsbach Dorf.

　甲板上で以上のような風景を楽しんでいる間に、ホットワインが振る舞われた。

While we were enjoying, on deck, the scenery as shown above, hot wine was served.

ドナウ川クルーズ ３４ (Cruise on the Danube -34-)

　旅の 6 日目（10 月 23 日）午後、オーストリアのバッハウ渓谷クルーズ（続き）。

The afternoon of the sixth day (October 23) of the trip: Cruise on the Danube in the Wachau valley (continuation).


13:55 頃、左岸にシュヴァレンバッハ。悪魔がこの辺りでドナウを
遮ろうとして失敗したという伝説がある。
Around 13:55, we saw Schwallenbach on the left bank of the Danube. There is a legend
that the devil has failed in an attempt to cut the Danube in this area.
　上の写真の場所から少し上流にヴィレンドルフのヴィーナス（旧石器時代に作られたと推定されている女性像、ウィーン自然史博物館に収蔵）が発見された場所を記念する石碑（こちらにその写真がある）が見える、と船で貰った地図にある。しかし、われわれはそれを見ることが出来なかった。今年の洪水で流されたのだろうとの噂が立ったが、真相はどうなのだろう。

On the map of Wachau we got on the ship, it was written that a stone monument commemorating the site of discovering the Venus of Willendorf (a female figure estimated to have been made in the Later Stone Age; it is now in the Naturhistorisches Museum in Vienna) could be seen on the left bank a little upstream from the place of the above photo (a picture of the monument is here). However, we were unable to see it. There was the rumor that it might have been washed away by the flood of this year, but we do not know whether it was true.

突き落としたという伝説がある。

pushedprisoners down to the valley.

ドナウ川クルーズ ３３ (Cruise on the Danube -33-)

　旅の 6 日目（10 月 23 日）午後、デュルンシュタインからメルクまで、ユネスコの世界遺産に登録されているバッハウ渓谷をクルーズ。この旅のハイライトである（こちらのウェブページに、ドナウ川のこの区間の絵地図がある。地名はドイツ語表記）。

The afternoon of the sixth day (October 23) of the trip: We cruise the Danube from Dürnstein to Melk, which lies in "Wachau Cultural Landscape" in the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites. This is the highlight of this trip (here is a pictorial map of this section of the Danube).


デュルンシュタイン出港前にドナウ川の旧市街の対岸側を船室で描いた。
Before departure from Dürnstein, I made, in the cabin, this sketch of the Danube coast
opposite to the Old Town.


デュルンシュタインを出港したのは 12:30。同時に船内での昼食時間が始まる。
この写真は昼食後の 13:07 頃に見えていたバッハウ渓谷の眺め。
Our ship set sail from Dürnstein at 12:30. Lunch time in the ship began at the same time.
This picture of the Wachau was taken around 13:07 after lunch.


13:30 頃、ドナウ川右岸に人口 1000 人余りの町、ロスザッツ・アルンスドルフが見える。
Around 13:30, we saw Rossatz-Arnsdorf, a town with the population of about 1,000,
on the Danube right bank.


13:35 頃、左岸に人口 1700 人余りの町、シュピッツが見える。
Around 13:35, we saw Spitz, a town with the population of about 1,700, on the left bank.


13:40 頃、左岸に 1000 年近く前に立てられたヒンターハウス城の城址が見える。
Around 13:40, we saw ruins of Hinterhaus Castle, built almost 1,000 years ago, on the left bank.

ドナウ川クルーズ ３２ (Cruise on the Danube -32-)

　旅の 6 日目（10 月 23 日）午前、オーストリアのデュルンシュタインで（続き）。

The morning of the sixth day (October 23) of the trip: In Dürnstein (continuation).


旧市街の周囲に残る城壁。
Remains of castle walls around the Old City.


修道院教会脇の小径。

ドナウ遊歩道。
Danube Promenade.


登った来たデュルンシュタイン城址を仰ぎ見ると、まだ霧に霞んでいる。
Dürnstein Castle ruins, where we went up, is still in the fog.


船着場に近づき、木々の向こうにセレナーデ II 号が見える。
We have come near the pier and see the Serenade II beyond trees.


サイクリングロードにもなっているドナウ遊歩道は、まだ遥かに続く。
Danube Promenade, which also serves as a cycling course, continues further.

ドナウ川クルーズ ３１ (Cruise on the Danube -31-)

　旅の 6 日目（10 月 23 日）午前、オーストリアのデュルンシュタインで（続き）。

The morning of the sixth day (October 23) of the trip: In Dürnstein (continuation).


丘の中腹のブドウ畑。
Vineyards on the hillside.


丘のふもと近くにある、しゃれたカフェの入口。
Entrance to a fancy cafe near the foot of the hill.


旧市街ハウプト広場からミニトレインで船着場へ帰ることになっていたが、私たちは徒歩で帰ることにした。メインストリートのごく近くにも、田園風景が広がっている。
We were supposed to return from Hauptplatz in the Old Town to the pier by mini-train, but my wife and I as well as some other people decided to go back on foot. Rural landscape is also spreading at proximity to Hauptstraße.


ドナウ川対岸にある家々、ブドウ畑、丘の木々も美しいのだが、霧にかすんでいる。
Houses, vineyards and trees on the hills of the opposite bank of the Danube are beautiful but are dimmed by fog.


帰り道のかたわらの風景。
