「蔵の辻」の木陰で一休みしたあと、われわれは紫式部公園へ向かった。1 枚目の写真は、同公園の西門。ここは、紫式部が父藤原為時に従ってこの地に滞在していたことに因んで造られた寝殿造庭園で、文化勲章受章者の圓鍔勝三（えんつば かつぞう、1905–2003）が制作した金色に輝く紫式部像（2 枚目の写真）や、 4 基の紫式部歌碑、釣殿、泉池、自由広場、藤棚などがある。
式部像の傍らに、美術評論家・河北倫明 (1914–1995) による「紫式部像によせて」の碑文（1986 年筆。3 枚目の写真）があり、式部像は武生市が市制 35 年を記念して建立したものと記されている（武生市は 2005 年に今立町と合併し、越前市に生まれ変わった）。また、背景の庭園は、庭園研究家・森蘊（もり おさむ、1905–1988）の設計によるものであることも記されている。
紫式部歌碑は 4 基とも、各々の説明板と合わせて撮影したが、ここには、谷崎潤一郎揮毫の碑を掲載する（4 枚目の写真）。「ここにかく 日野の 杉村 埋む雪 小塩の松に けふや まがへる」と記されている。「越前国府では、日野岳に群立する杉をこんなに埋める雪が降っている。都でも今日は小塩山の松に雪が降っているのだろうが、そんな景色が思い出される」の意である。
5 枚目の写真は泉池。一番下の写真は、紫式部公園から越前市の「まちなか」近くまで続く遊歩道。娘は、この道を出はずれたところのコンビにで接着剤を購入し、公園に向かったときから底がはがれかけていたサンダル式の靴を無事に修理した。（つづく）
After having a rest in the shade of "Kura no Tsuji", we went to Murasaki Shikibu Park. The first photo shows the west gate of the park. The park is actually a garden of Shinden-zukuri, which was built in honor of the fact that Murasaki Shikibu stayed in this area together with her father, Fujiwara no Tametoki. The garden includes a golden statue of Murasaki Shikibu (the second photo) produced by Katsuzo Entsuba (1905–2003), four monuments inscribed with Murasaki Shikibu's tanka, a fishing hall, a pond, a free field and a wisteria trellis.
Beside the statue of Murasaki Shikibu, there is a monument inscribed with "About the statue of Murasaki Shikibu" (1986; the third photo) by the art critic, Michiaki Kawakita (1914–1995). According to the inscription, the statue was made to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Takefu City (the city absorbed Imadate Town in 2005 to become Echizen City), and the garden was designed by the researcher of gardens, Osamu Mori (1905–1988).
I took photos of all the four tanka monuments together with description plates of them. The fourth photo is the one chosen among those. The inscription is based on Junichiro Tanizaki's calligraphy. The meaning of the tanka, "Koko ni kaku Hino no sugimura uzumu yuki Oshio no matsu ni kyo ya magaeru" is as follows: "In Echizen Kokufu, snow is falling so much as to hide a pine forest on Mt. Hino, making me think of snow falling today on pines of Mt. Oshio, Kyoto."
The fifth photo is a shot of the pond in the garden. The bottom photo shows the promenade that goes from Murasaki Shikibu Park to the vicinity of the downtown of Echizen City. At a convenience store just outside the promenade, our daughter bought an adhesive, successfully repairing her shoes, the bottoms of which had been pulling away from the time we had headed to the park.
