一枚目の写真の菜の花（アブラナ）は、近くの小学校門前の花壇に咲いていたものである（2013 年 2 月 7 日撮影）。菜の花と月といえば、与謝蕪村の句「菜の花や月は東に日は西に」を思い出される方も多いだろうが、二枚目の月の写真は、2 月 5 日に南の空の残月と朝焼けの雲を撮ったもので、東の空に登った月ではない。
文献 1 に「蕪村の句が詠まれた日付は当時の暦で 3 月 23 日である。当時の暦で二十三日の月というと、ほぼ下弦の半月で、その月の出の時刻は真夜中になり、この句はその日の眼前の風景を詠んだものではない」という主旨の説明がある。そして、「蕪村がこの句を実際にみた情景を思い出して詠んだとすれば、実際にこの情景を目にした日は、グレゴリオ暦の日付で、1774 年 4 月 20～25 日頃」との推定も記されている。

The flowers of rapeseed in the upper photo, taken on February 7, 2013, were blooming in the flower bed in front of the gate of the nearby elementary school. Speaking of the rapeseed and the moon, many people may recall the famous haiku by Yosa Buson, "Nanohana ya / tsuki wa higashi ni / hi wa nishi ni (Flowers of rape / the moon in the east / the sun in the west)." However, the moon in the lower photo, taken on February 5, is not the one rising in the eastern sky, but the one present in the southern sky together with the clouds of the morning glow.
In Ref. 1 above, we see an account like this (in Japanese): "The date when the above haiku was made by Buson was March 23 of the lunar calendar. On the 23rd day of this calendar, we see the waning, half moon rising in the midnight. Thus, it cannot be considered that Buson made this haiku by looking at the real-time scenery." There is also the following estimation: "Provided that Buson had made this haiku by recollecting the real scenery, he should have seen it from the 20th to 25th of April, 1774, in the Gregorian calendar."
