3 月 7 日に妻と長野県上田市の鹿教湯温泉を訪れ、10 日まで滞在した。JR ジパング倶楽部が実施している同温泉・斎藤ホテルでの連泊割引お試しプランを利用しての旅である。大阪からは、8 時 58 分発の特急しなの 9 号（一枚目の写真）で松本まで行くと、ホテルの送迎車が 13 時 20 分に出迎えてくれる。大阪から長野行きの直通列車が一日に一本だけ 11 番線から発車していることを初めて知った。
鹿教湯という名は、鹿に姿を変えた文殊菩薩が、信仰心の厚い猟師に温泉の場所を教えたという開湯伝説に因んでいる。南西から北東に向って伸びる温泉街の通りのほぼ正面に鹿教湯富士（1,029 m、正式名は日本一の山に同じ富士山）が見える。斎藤ホテルの高層ビルはその眺望を妨げないように通りから奥まって立つ（二枚目の写真）。
On March 7, my wife and I visited Kakeyu Hot Spring in Nagano Prefecture and stayed there until March 10. This was a trip by using JR Zipangu Club's plan for trying the discount for plural-day's stay at Saito Hotel in that spa town. If you go from Osaka by the Shinano Express 9 (upper photo) starting 8:58, the courtesy car of the hotel picks you up at 13:20 in front of Matsumoto Station. I have learned that there is only the afore-mentioned train that goes directly from Osaka to Nagano and that it departs from platform 11 of Osaka Station.
Kakeyu Hot Spring is named after the legend that Bodhisattva Monju, transformed into a deer, told a deeply religious hunter where to find the hot spring. Mt. Kakeyu Fuji (1029 m high; its official name is Mt. Fuji, the same as the highest mountain in Japan) can be seen from the street of the spa town that extends from the southwest to the northeast. The high building of Saito Hotel stands a little back from the street so as not to interfere with the view of this mountain (lower photo).
