We must be still and still moving

Home is where one starts from. As we grow older
The world becomes stranger, the pattern more complicated
Of dead and living. Not the intense moment
Isolated, with no before and after
But a lifetime burning in every moment
And not the lifetime of one man only
But of old stones that cannot be deciphered
There is a time for the evening under starlight
A time for the evening under lamplight
(The evening with the photograph album)
Love is most nearly itself
When here and now cease to matter
Old men ought to be explorers
Here or there does not matter
We must be still and still moving

Into another intensity
For a further union, a deeper communion
Through the dark cold and the empty desolation
The wave cry, the wind cry, the vast waters
Of the petrel and the porpoise. In my end is my beginning

"We must be still and still moving," that is, we must be full of that inner, non-active, silence. (Terry L. Fairchild, Time, Eternity, and Immortality in T. S. Eliot's Four Quartets)

"The Cloud of Unknowing teaches that we can achieve communion with God only through the Grace of divine Love. To prepare ourselves to receive this gift, we must enter a state of quiet stillness, suspended between heaven and earth. Above -- between us and God -- lies a mysterious "cloud of unknowing", which our understanding can never penetrate. Between us and the world, we must create a "cloud of forgetting", leaving conscious thought and desire below. In this timeless place of forgetting and unknowing, we may begin to hear that for which we are listening. T.S. Eliot said it this way:
'We must be still and still moving
Into another intensity for a further union, a deeper communion
Through the dark cold and the empty desolation...' "
(John Luther Adams, Clouds of Forgetting, Clouds of Unknowing)

Oliver Barratt’s still moving takes its cue from TS Eliot’s Four Quarters:
'Here and there does not matter
We must be still and still moving.'
Motionless yet seemingly alive, inert yet bristling with energy, the sculptures explore the paradox at the heart of Eliot’s poem. The opposition between stillness and movement is just one of a series which dominates the show. (Chris Greenhalgh, Oliver Barratt: Still moving)

And still" のあとにコンマはないものの、"We must be still and still, moving ..."
