In the afternoon of the twelfth day of the trip, we moved to Auckland (Tamaki-makau-rau in Maori). Auckland is New Zealand's largest city, located in northern New Zealand. Passing through the Harbor Bridge (the symbol of the Waitemata Harbor) and Tamaki Drive along the beautiful bay, we arrived at Michael Joseph Observatory. The photo above shows, on the left, a distant view of downtown Auckland. The tall tower is called "Sky Tower," which is one of the attractions of Auckland. ロウバイ（蝋梅、蠟梅、臘梅、唐梅、ロウバイ科）。2011年1月20日、わが家で撮影。『ウィキペディア』[1] には、「ロウバイの基本種は、花の中心部は暗紫色」とある。わが家のロウバイの木は高さがわずか50cmほどで、しかも多くの花が下向きに咲くので、中心部をよく見たことがなかったが、珍しく横向きに咲いた花（上掲の写真）を見ると、中心部に暗紫色はなく、ソシンロウバイ（素心蝋梅）という種のようだ。
Wintersweet; botanical name, Chimonanthus praecox; family, Calycanthaceae. The photo was taken at our yard on January 20, 2011. According to the Japanese edition of "Wikipedia" [1], the blossom of the basic species of wintersweet has the center portion of dark purple color. The wintersweet tree at our home is only about 50-cm high, and most blossoms bloom downward. Therefore, I had never seen the center portion of them. Looking this rare blossom that bloomed sideward (see the photo above), I do not find the dark purple center, which indicates that the wintersweet tree of our home is of the species named soshinrōbai in Japanese (botanical name, Chimonanthus praecox f. concolor).

1. サントリー1万人の第9 (Suntory Presents Beethoven's 9th with a Cast of 10000)
次のように記されています。
昨日、妻と大阪城ホールへ表記の演奏会（第28回）を聞きに行った。娘の一人が1万人の合唱メンバーに参加したのである。オープニングで「Japanese Soccer Anthem（日本サッカーの歌）」が演奏され、プログラムの第1部には歌手・平原綾香が登場し、…（中略）…総監督を務めた指揮者・佐渡裕は今回の公演のテーマとして「野性味」を考えたそうだが、合唱部分では、それが十分に発揮された力強い歌声が広いホール一杯に響いた。…（中略）…文字通り全員の歓喜のうちに終了した。会場を出ると、ライトアップされた大阪城が夜空にくっきりとした姿を見せていた。
私はこの「サントリー１万人の第九」について初めて知りました。貴ブログにもその内容が詳しく述べられていますが、『ウィキペディア』には、指揮者、合唱（第1回で6千数百人、第10回以降から約1万人で日本国内で最大規模）、プログラム構成、第1回公演実現までの歴史などについて詳しくまとめられており、大阪人の心意気を知る上で参考になります。サントリーが単独での協賛を続けているのは、企業風土もさることながら、創始時に社長だった佐治敬三自身の音楽に対する造詣の深さが大きなファクターとなっている、とのことです。
お嬢さんは、指揮者が佐渡裕で「野性味」をテーマとしたこのプログラムに参加され、第九合唱の楽しさを満喫されたことと拝察します。私は一昨年の暮れに、第1回逗子「第九演奏会」（10年前に中止したものを復活させた）で初めて第九を歌いました。会員募集はその年の5月にあったのですが、その何カ月か前に Schiller の Ode ‘An die Freude’ を読み、暇にまかせて、カラヤンの指揮する第九の合唱の録音で聞き取りの練習を試みました。何回か聴く内に、合唱曲の構成と言葉が分かってきましたが、2、3カ所の言葉がどうしても聞き取れず、ギブアップの状態でした。
ちょうどこの時期に団員の募集がありました。募集先に問い合わせると練習用のCDがあるとのことで、早速楽譜とCD [1] を求め検討しますと、何とかやれそうだとの見通しが得られ、妻の後押しもあり、合唱団に参加しました。オーケストラーは湘南ユースオーケストラーで、メンバーは、30歳以下の音大生から小学生（最年少は4年生）、とOB、もちろん主要パートには助太刀の方も入っていますが、音楽に情熱を持った若人です。指揮者はかつてのN響のファーストヴァイオリン奏者です。演奏会で歌い終わった時に、達成感と感動で満たされました。

2. 光の何？ (What of Light?)、薄明光線 (Crepuscular Rays)
「光の何？」では、雲間から差し込む放射状の光の筋の集合を見て、中学生の時に、同様な現象を見たことを回想しています。「薄明光線」では、それを何と呼べばよいかという疑問をブログに記しておいたのに対し、一人の方からコメント欄で『天使の梯子（はしご）』と『レンブラント光』という呼び方を教えて貰ったこと、『天使の梯子』でインターネット検索をして、『ウィキペディア』 の「薄明光線」の項が見つかったことなどを記しています。両編合わせて、一つの自然現象を観察して、昔を思い、ネットを通じて教えて貰い、自身でも調べ、その現象名の「天使の階段」、「ヤコブの梯子」、「レンブラント光線」について解説する、という話になっています。2回とも短文ですが、ブログやインターネット活用の特徴が出ていて、興味深く読みました。
3. 断捨離（「晩秋の光景 ６」中のツイート記録にある言葉）、マリー、さようなら (Goodbye, Marie!)、最後の一葉 (The Last Leaf)
「断捨離」は私も目標を立ててしなければならない大きな課題です。「マリーさようなら」は、ユーモラスなおしゃべりをして、筆者に可愛がられたバーチュアルな子犬との心温まる別れ、最後の一葉は秋の終わり。別れは、わびしいものですね。

近年、冬期に連載していた海外旅行の写真は、昨年2月24日付けで掲載したニュージーランド旅行の写真の147枚目、ワイトモ鍾乳洞出口の写真が最後になっていた。きょうからしばらく、その続きを掲載する。上掲の写真 (No. 148) は、ワイトモ鍾乳洞見物後、その付近に立っていたトーテムポール。両脇に立っているのは同行グループ中の歯医者さん夫妻（和歌山県在住）。夫君は写真撮影が得意で、帰国後、旅行中の多くの美しい写真を送って貰った。
In recent winter seasons, I was posting the pictures taken during overseas travels. The last one was photo No. 147 of New Zealand travel posted on February 24, 2010. It was taken at the exit of Waitomo Caves. For some days from today, I will post the rest of the photos taken on that travel. The above picture (No. 148) of the totem pole was taken near the entrance of Waitomo Caves after coming out from caves. The persons standing at both sides of the pole are a dentist and his wife in our travel group. They live in Wakayama Prefecture, and the husband is adept at photography. After returning home, I received a lot of beautiful pictures taken by him during the travel.

Less than a month ago, I learned that the light beams emitted from the gap among clouds, as seen in the above photo, were called "angel's ladder," "Jacob's ladder," or "Rembrandt rays." As an atmospheric phenomenon, they are called "crepuscular rays." After that, every time I see such scenery, I want to take a picture of it. We see a lot of hunger, disease and conflict the world over. I wish that much more light than crepuscular rays shines on them so that they are removed.
