山陰の旅４ (Trip to Sanin Region 4)

　旅の2日目の午後、島根県安来市の足立美術館を訪れた。

　同館は地元出身の実業家・足立全康（1899–1990）が1970年に開館したもので、横山大観をはじめとする近代日本画と、陶芸、彫刻、蒔絵、童画などを収蔵している。足立美術館のもう一つの特色は、「枯山水庭」「白砂青松庭」「苔庭」「池庭」など6つに分かれ、面積5万坪におよぶ日本庭園である。米国の日本庭園専門雑誌 Sukiya Living (The Journal of Japanese Gardening) [1] の日本庭園ランキング (Shiosai Ranking) では、初回の2003年から2009年まで、7年連続で日本一（そして、多分世界一ともいえよう）に選出されているそうだ（以上 [2, 3] を参考にした）。

　写真は上から、枯山水庭、鶴亀の滝、池庭である。なお、同館では目下春季特別展として「開館40周年記念 対決 横山大観と日本画の巨匠たち」が開催されている。

In the afternoon of the second day of our trip, we visited Adachi Museum of Art in Yasugi, Shimane.

Zenko Adachi (1899–1990), a businessman born in Yasugi, opened this museum in 1970. Its collection includes contemporary Japanese-style paintings of Taikan Yokayama and others as well as potteries, sculptures, sprinkled pictures and paintings for children. The museum is also known for its superb Japanese gardens, consisting of six gardens, with about 165,000 square meters in total. These gardens continue the seven-year streak as Japan's — and quite possibly the world's — top garden in Shiosai Rankings of Sukiya Living (The Journal of Japanese Gardening) [1] from 2003, the year of its start, to 2009 ([2, 3]).

The photos above show The Dry Landscape Garden, Kikaku-no-taki Waterfall and The Pond Garden. The museum is now displaying a spring special exhibition entitled "Confrontation: Taikan Yokoyama and Great Painters of Japanese Style" as the memorial event of its 40th anniversary.
