オランダ、ベルギー運河の船旅 ４ (Cruise on Canals in the Netherlands and Belgium -4-)

　ホールンの街の中心、ローデ・ステーン広場には、17世紀始めにオランダ東インド会社に務め、2期にわたってオランダ領東インド総督となったヤン・ピーテルスゾーン・クーン (1587–1629) の大きな像がある（1枚目の写真）。広場を挟んでその両側には、西フリース博物館（2枚目の写真）と計量所［Weigh house（普通名詞としての weigh house の説明はこちら）、3枚目の写真、私たち夫婦を入れて、添乗員の S・Y さんに撮って貰った］の凝った建物がある。後者は現在、レストランとして利用されている。下の2枚の写真は、ローデ・ステーン広場付近の街並み。（つづく）

On the Rode Steen square in the center of Hoorn, there is a big statue (the top photo above) of Jan Pieterszoon Coen (1587–1629), who was an officer of the Dutch East India Company in the early seventeenth century, holding two terms as its Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies. At both sides facing the statue of the square, stand ornate buildings of Westfries Museum (the middle photo above) and Waag [Weigh house (an explanation of the common noun "weigh house" is given here); the bottom photo above, taken by the tour conductor Ms. S. Y. to include my wife and me). The latter building is now used as a restaurant. Two photos below show streets near the Rode Steen square. (To be continued)
