オランダ、ベルギー運河の船旅 ２２ (Cruise on Canals in the Netherlands and Belgium -22-)

アントワープの写真の続き。今回は、ノートルダム大聖堂の周辺で撮ったもの。

名建築家・アッペルマンの記念碑（「聖母大聖堂の建築家たちの像」としても知られる。ジェフ・ランボーによる）。
Monument to master builder Appelmans (also known as "statue of builders of Our Lady's Cathedral"; sculpture by Jef Lambeaux).

ノートルダム大聖堂。高さ 123.0 m、幅 117 m、奥行き 65 m。建築は1352年に始まり、最後に出来た塔は、1518年の完成。二つの塔が計画されたが、完成したのは北塔のみ。
Cathedral of Our Lady; height, 123.0 m; length, 117 m; and depth, 65 m. Construction began in 1352, and the tower was finished last in 1518. Of the two planned towers, only the northern was finished.

ノートルダム大聖堂前の広場にある『フランダースの犬』記念碑。アントワープと日本の協力で、2003年に出来たもの。『フランダースの犬』（イギリスの作家マリー・ルイーズ・ド・ラ・ラメーが「ウィーダ」のペンネームで書いた）は、日本において、1975年にテレビ・アニメとして放映されたことにより、物語の舞台であるベルギーにおいてよりもよく知られている。石碑の中心は日本の国旗をイメージしたデザインであり、日本語の碑文はあとで追加された（「ネロとパトラッシュ記念碑のその後」による）。

Monument of A Dog of Flanders in the square, in front of Our Lady's Cathedral. The monument was constructed by cooperation of Antwerp and Japan in 2003. In Japan, A Dog of Flanders, written by the English author Marie Louise de la Ramée (published with her pseudonym "Ouida"), was aired as an anime program of TV in 1975, so that it is much better known than in Belgium, where the scene of the story was laid. The design of the central part of the monument is based on the national flag of Japan, and a Japanese inscription was added later [according to "Sequel about the monument of Nello and Patrasche" (in Japanese)].

『フランダースの犬』記念碑に書かれている言葉。和文は「「フランダースの犬」この物語は悲しみの奥底から見出す事の出来る本当の希望と友情であり、永遠に語り継がれる私達の宝物なのです。」

Words on Monument of A Dog of Flanders. The English version says as follows: Nello and his dog Patrasche, main characters from the story "A dog of Flanders," symbols of true and eternal friendship, loyalty and devotion.
